Cheshire and Merseyside community planting.

The Mersey Forest is built around two priorities: woodland on land people actually use, and a 30% canopy target across an area of 1.7 million people.

Community land restoration.

Planting goes into land in active community use, on public and private sites chosen with landowners and the local authority. Sites are picked for landscape, soil, biodiversity and local plans, all to the UK Forestry Standard, and prioritised where people will live alongside the woodland for decades.

Eight councils, one forest.

The Mersey Forest is a partnership between local authorities, the Forestry Commission, Natural England and the Environment Agency, working towards 30% tree cover across Cheshire and Merseyside by 2050. Over ten million trees so far, and more than 50,000 people involved in the last decade.
