Carbon credits

Carbon credits, sourced properly.

A carbon credit represents one tonne of CO₂ either avoided or removed by an independently verified project. We offer them alongside the reforestation programmes we're known for, screened and sourced by THG ECO's carbon desk.

What is carbon offsetting?

Reduce first,
credits after.

A carbon credit represents one tonne of CO₂-equivalent avoided or removed by an independently verified project.

Credits are for the emissions you cannot yet eliminate, and they work alongside cutting your own footprint rather than in place of it. They sit outside your reported scopes under the GHG Protocol, so they evidence a contribution to climate action rather than lowering your measured emissions.

Renewable energy Methane capture Reforestation
01Project

A project avoids or removes emissions

Verified projects across reforestation, methane capture, renewable energy and improved cookstoves reduce, avoid or remove greenhouse gases.

02Credit

Each verified tonne becomes a credit

One tonne of CO₂-equivalent avoided or removed is issued as a single credit under a recognised standard, with ownership recorded on a public registry.

03Offset

The credit is retired in your name

Once used, a credit is permanently retired on the registry so it cannot be resold or claimed again. That retirement record is what you report against.

Standards we work with

Global benchmarks for verification.

Credit standards are the global benchmarks for third-party monitoring, reporting and verification. They provide the infrastructure to issue, trace, transfer and retire carbon credits, with evidence of ownership and a permanent retirement record so a credit cannot be claimed twice.

More Trees trades in credits verified under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCU), Gold Standard Verified Emission Reductions (VER) and UNFCCC CDM Certified Emission Reductions (CER). Every credit is traceable to a registered project on a public registry.

Verra · VCS Verified Carbon StandardThe most widely used standard in the voluntary market. Project-level methodology with third-party audit.
Gold Standard · VER Voluntary Emissions ReductionsFounded by WWF and other NGOs. Requires demonstrated SDG contribution alongside emissions reductions.
UNFCCC · CDM CER Certified Emissions ReductionsThe Kyoto Protocol mechanism, governed by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Tree planting vs. carbon offsetting

Two tools, one strategy.

Planting and credits do different jobs. We're best known for planting, but both have a place in a credible climate strategy. Here's how they compare.

Tree planting

Restores ecosystems

  • Named sites, named partners. You know where your trees are, who planted them and what the land looked like before.
  • More than carbon.Biodiversity, soil, water and local employment, reported site by site.
  • Something to show.Trees your team can visit, photograph and point to for decades.
  • A story that travels.Photography, film and site data your marketing and ESG teams can both use.
Carbon offsetting

Verified tonnes, retired in your name

  • One verified tonne, one credit. Each credit represents a tonne of CO₂-equivalent avoided or removed by an independently verified project.
  • A broad range of project types.Reforestation, renewable energy, methane capture and improved cookstoves among them.
  • Issued under recognised standards.Verra VCS, Gold Standard and UNFCCC CDM, each with published methodology and third-party audit.
  • A permanent retirement record.Retired on a public registry in your name, so the credit cannot be resold or claimed again.
Offset your footprint

Carbon credits, traced to source.

Every credit we trade is issued under a recognised standard, traceable to a registered project, and retired on a public registry in your name. Sourced and screened by THG ECO's carbon desk.

Credits work alongside cutting your own emissions, not instead of it.
