Forests, wildlife, and the people who live there.

Cariboo restoration is not a carbon-only project. The burned land matters to wildlife, to First Nations communities' relationship with the territory, and to the water systems that feed BC's lakes and rivers.

Assisting natural regeneration.

Planting on burn scars where natural regeneration has stalled. Lodgepole pine leads the mix, alongside white spruce, matched to the site and elevation band. Lodgepole is the classic post-fire species here: its cones are sealed with resin and need fire's heat to open. Where the fires burned too hot or too often, that cycle broke, and the forest needs help back. Planting runs in June, with survival tracked through Veritree's monitoring platform and currently estimated at 85%.

Communities & wildlife

Wildlife corridors & First Nations land.

Before work begins, planting partners consult with Indigenous Nations so restoration reflects local priorities. Seasonal jobs go to community members, and culturally significant food and medicine plants are prioritised. The land these fires burned is black bear, cougar, moose and salmon country, and restoring forest cover here also stabilises soil, reduces flood and erosion risk, and helps hold the spring snowpack that feeds BC's rivers. Supports SDG 13 and SDG 15.
